A University of Texas poll to be released today shows Republican presidential candidate John McCain and GOP Sen. John Cornyn leading by comfortable margins in Texas, as expected. But the statewide survey of 550 registered voters has one very surprising finding: 23 percent of Texans are convinced that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is a Muslim.
I wonder how many think Obama is a bio-technological construct created by a race of galaxy traveling entities who seek to subjugate and colonize our planet…
Without a doubt this is the best political ad I’ve seen this election:
The Obama political team are running a clinic on winning an election. THey could have done this ad at any time over the past few months… but here it is just 6 days before the election. a simple yet devastating spot composed only of McCain quotes and a shot of the winking menace Palin.
Do you really want a President McCain depending on Caribou Barbie for economic advice?
A woman claimed she was mugged, beaten up, and had a backwards (?) “B” carved into her cheek, all because she was a McCain supporter. Alas, it is untrue.
My family and I went to see Joe Biden at an event in Tacoma today. About 100,000 people showed up for the event; it took us 45 minutes just to get in and find a seat. We were told it was the biggest Biden rally ever.
Aside from a few logistics issues, the event was overwhelmingly fun and positive. I didn’t hear any calls of “kill him,” “treason,” or “traitor.” Biden offered a positive message for the country rather than a message of fear and division. It was beautiful… and the way America is supposed to be.
IF you’re wondering why Biden is spending time in this state (reliably blue at the presidential level) it’s because he was here to help some of the down ticket dems, such as Governor Gregoire and Senators Murry and Cantwell.
Barring a dramatic change in the political landscape over the next three weeks, Democrats appear headed toward a decisive victory on Election Day that would give them broad power over the federal government.
Too soon to start celebrating, of course, but I am eagerly waiting for the day.
About two years ago I wrote this post lamenting the way the angry and hate-filled right has made America a worse place to live. One time viewer here Richardson chastised me at the time and provided a number of angry quotes from such luminaries of the left as Linda Ronstadt, Margaret Cho, and some guy named Bob Fertik. HIs argument was that the left was just as much to blame, if not more so, for the divisive rancor as the right.
Two years later, McCain rallies are now mob scenes with bloodthirsty partisans hollering things like “kill him,” “traitor,” treason,” and “off with his head,” outbursts that the Secret Service is taking very seriously. Palin accuses him of “palling around with terrorists.” Obama’s middle name of Hussein is thrown around with reckless abandon as if were on his official stationary. Then there is this lovely crowd scene:
And this one has a lovely moment with a child demonstrating how much she has been brainwashed into hating Obama. They start ‘em young…
Giving a fair shake to Richardson’s argument, one would expect to see a similar barrage of outbursts by Obama supporters, but you know, it just isn’t there. THe partisan divide in our country is not a case of two sides running away from each other at an equal pace; it’s a matter of one side, the right, using the worst aspects of human nature – hatred of the other, tribalistic tendencies, close-mindedness – in order to win elections. It started in the 1990’s with the witchhunt against Bill Clinton and continues to this day. Unfortunately for McCain, it looks like things have gone too far, and now the few remaining reasonable conservatives are telling McCain to dial it back.
I gave the first debate to McCain due to his command of the issues but I’m marking the second debate as a big win for Obama. He knew the issues and just dominated the stage with his charmisatic and cool presence while McCain was hobbling around like a, well, 72 year-old man. Obama masterfully used McCain’s own words against him and no doubt his story abotu his mother scored well with viewers. And given the dynamic of the race, even a modest win for Obama is a big win, as it was up to McCain to shake up a race he was losing.
What was it… about 3 weeks ago that Johnny Drama had the slight lead i nthe numbers in the left was panicking? But Obama and his team kept their cool and stuck to their playbook. If they go one to win the lection next month, Obama’s election team will surely go down as one of the best in history.
